Turkish Citizens in Georgia Caught Selling Counterfeit Money

Two citizens of Turkey were arrested in Georgia on charges of importing and selling counterfeit money, reports Georgia Online.

Mehmed Shukyur and Maksud Topalak imported counterfeit money worth $8,200 USD and sold it for $2,200 USD to a Georgian citizen.

The Turkish citizens admitted to plans to bring $1 million USD worth of counterfeit money into the country and exchange them for real dollars in a 1:4 ratio.

Shukyur and Topalak were arrested when they attempted to export the real money to Turkey.

Georgian authorities believe that the men are members of a larger group who planned to exchange large amounts of counterfeit money in Georgia.
