Baku Hopes Turkey Won’t Open Border with Armenia, Even Temporarily

“Turkish President Abdullah Gul has not declared any clear position on the possible opening of borders between Ankara and Yerevan within the framework of NATO military trainings of NATO from September 11–17 during his visit to Azerbaijan. However, Baku believes that Ankara will not take such a step. Anyway, Azerbaijan does not lose hope”, chief of department for foreign relations of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov said in an interview with ANS TV, reports News.az.

He said the Turkey isn’t voicing a definite position. “It is currently unclear whether it is planned or not. This issue has been raised within the frames of NATO for several months. Turkey has already voiced its negative position on this issue. This statement is voiced on the level of the foreign ministers.

“The development of relations between our countries gives hope that Turkey will not open borders with Armenia even temporarily within the framework of these trainings and events,” said Mammadov.
