Russia Maintaining Balance in South Caucasus: Armenian MP

Extending the term of the Russian military base in Armenia is conditioned by maintaining balance in the South Caucasus, said National Assembly deputy, Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Council member Artak Zakaryan at a press conference today, noting that such actions by Russia are for securing peace and balance in the region. According to Zakaryan, extending the contract is fully justified.

“You know, currently a threat to peace isn’t Azerbaijan’s non-constructive, full of threats policy, but that Aliyev’s bellicose statements are purely for domestic consumption, it’s obvious,” said Zakaryan.

Turning his attention to Russia-Azerbaijan relations, the MP said that that’s a part of Russia’s policy in the South Caucasus.
