Russia Partially Lifts Wheat Export Ban

The Russian government has partially lifted the ban on wheat export, reports RIA Novosti, citing an August 30 government decision. The government document states that the export of wheat is permitted in cases of humanitarian assistance, implementing Russia’s international treaties, and other reasons.

As previously reported, Russia had decided to prohibit the export of wheat due to the drought in the country this year. As a result of lack of rains, a large volume of wheat crops had been destroyed. Experts had expected 90 million tons of wheat in the spring; however, in August that number went down considerably, to 60–65 million tons.
