Azerbaijan’s Gas Supply to Russia Won’t Affect Nabucco Project

The agreement between Russia and Azerbaijan in which gas supplied to Russia will increase to 1 billion cubic meters this year and up to 2 billion cubic meters next year will not affect the volume of gas supplied through Nabucco, said Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH Managing Director Reinhard Mitschek in an interview with 1news.az.

He also noted that Nabucco won’t make any major changes in the volume of gas supplied to Europe.

“However, this is an alternative source of supply, so it will have an effect on the market itself, serving as its diversification,” he said.

According to Mitschek, Nabucco will have an impact on pricing, competition and other market parameters. “It’ll be beneficial for Azerbaijan and for Europe,” he said.

Commenting on Russian experts statements that the volume of gas to fill the Nabucco pipeline is not enough, Mitschek said: “That’s the opinion of the Russian side; we see the issue in a different light.”
