Relatives of March 1 Victims Won’t Stage Hunger Strike Today

The sit-in and hunger strike by relatives of the March 1 (2008) victims, which was set to take place today, won’t be happening.

According to information we have received, these demonstrations won’t be taking place because the participants of the Council of Europe Forum for the Future of Democracy today will be meeting with the relatives of the March 1 victims; thus, they have decided not to take such extreme measures at this time.

Note that the three-day CoE forum in Yerevan began yesterday at the Government Guest House near the Matenadaran (Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts). A number of high-level officials, including CoE Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, are participating in the forum.
