Identity of Suicide Bomber in Istanbul Attack Announced

The Istanbul Governorship announced the identity of the suicide bomber who carried out the attack at Istanbul’s Taksim Square on Sunday. His name was Vedat Acar.

According to BIA News Center, 32 people were injured in the attack, among them 15 police officers. Acar, 24, was registered in Turkey’s district of Gürpınar in the southeastern province of Van.

According to the statement, Acar had joined the outlawed armed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in 2004.

The governorship stated that eight people who were supposedly involved in the attack were taken into police custody, among them also Acar’s brother Sedat Acar.

In a declaration on Monday, the Democratic Confederation of Kurdistan (KCK), the umbrella organization that includes the PKK, had denied any connection to the incident and announced to have extended the ceasefire until the general elections in June next year.

Note that RA Minister of Foreign Affairs press spokesperson Tigran Balayan had told Epress.am earlier that there were no Republic of Armenia citizens injured in the attack.
