Turkish Satellite TV Airs Documentary, Apologizes to Armenians

Broadcast through the Turksat 3A satellite, Turkey’s Hayat TV station yesterday aired a documentary film called “Armenians” on the history of Armenians living in Turkey.

In their commentary presenting the film, the hosts, with repentant and regretful remarks, addressed Armenians, who “were treated like aliens [i.e. immigrants],” reports Istanbul-based Armenian-Turkish weekly Agos.

The commentary ends with the following:

“We, the miserable workers of this country, honorary Kurds, Turks, Circassians, the Laz, Arabs; that is, those who do not rob your property, those who do not soak bread in your blood. We too became afraid, we too became silent, we were unable to lend a hand. We are sorry, my brother, we are sorry…”

Note that Hayat TV is only available by satellite, and the Turkish government has attempted to prohibit its broadcasting in the past.

The documentary “Armenians” will be aired again on Nov. 17 and 24 at 8 pm local time.
