Armenia’s Honorary Norwegian Consul Knighted at Yerevan Decoration Ceremony

Though there was no armor, no horses, no lances, no kings or queens, and no laying of swords on shoulders, a ceremony yesterday which saw Mr. Timothy Straight, Honorary Consul of the Royal Norwegian Consulate and Finnish Honorary Consulate, being bestowed the title of Knight, 1st class, was a huge success.

Mr. Straight was inducted into the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr. Knut Hauge (seat in Moscow).

A few dozen friends, NGO representatives and quite a few ambassadors, including US Ambassador to Armenia Marie L. Yovanovitch, German Ambassador to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt, British Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale and many others, were fortunate to have been invited to the special occasion, which took place in Nordic House in Yerevan.

Served along with wine was fabulous seafood hors d’oeuvres prepared by local resident Jussi Flemming Bioern, who was dressed in traditional Norwegian costume for the occasion.

As far as is known, this is the first occasion in history that such a ceremony has taken place in the Republic of Armenia.
