Armenians, Georgians to Discuss Environmental Concerns of Teghut Project

An international conference on “Environmental Security of the Plan to Exploit Teghut Copper- Molybdenum Mine” will take place from 10 am to 4:30 pm on Dec. 14 at Yerevan’s Congress Hotel.

The conference is organized by the Armenian civil initiative group for the protection of Teghut forest and Georgian NGO Green Alternative. The aim of the conference is to uncover and discuss the concerns of experts and NGOs connected to the Teghut mine, which is located in the cross-border Debed (Debeda) River bed, in an area prone to earthquakes and landslides.

Representative of Armenian and Georgian state agencies, international organizations, as well as those from mining companies, financial institutions, and NGOS, and independent experts and journalists have been invited to the conference.

A trip to Teghut to show the area affected by mining will take place before the conference, reports Antarner.net.
