EU-Armenia Negotiations on Association Agreements Continue

The next round of EU negotiations on Association Agreements with Armenia will take place on Dec. 15 in Yerevan.

The Armenian negotiating team is lead by RA Deputy Foreign Minister Karine Ghazinyan, while the EU delegation will be led by Gunnar Vigand, Director of Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for External Relations, reports the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Note the first round of negotiations began in July this year (not only with Armenia, but with Georgia and Azerbaijan as well). The Agreements are based on joint commitments to a set of shared values and will cover a wide range of areas, including political dialogue, justice, freedom and security, as well as trade and cooperation in sectoral policies.

The negotiating process will be guided by the principles of inclusiveness, differentiation, conditionality and joint ownership, as well as by a strong commitment of the parties to shared values and principles, including democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights and good governance, according to the EU website.
