Two Armenian TV Channels Deprived of Right to Broadcast

Today, the National Commission on Television and Radio (NCTR) announced the results of the broadcasting license contest according to which it became clear that A1+ would not be back on air. Only one member of the NCTR, Ara Tadevosyan, gave equal points to A1+ and its competitor ArmNews. All the other members gave zero points to A1+ and 6 points to its competitor.

As a result of another contest, ALM television company, which got 32 points, was also deprived of the right to broadcast, ceding to Yerevan television company that gathered 40 points.

On Dec. 14, Freedom House called on the Government of Armenia to grant a broadcasting license to A1+ television station, which has effectively been shut down by the Armenian state since 2002.
