Demonstrators Demanding Work in Front of Yerevan City Hall

About a dozen people staged a protest in front of Yerevan City Hall today. They are discontented with the city’s decision to prohibit street vendors from selling their wares on Vardanants street. Note that numerous makeshift stalls where vendors sell a variety of items for home renovation and repair have been set up on this street since the 90s.

Demonstrators were shouting “Work, work” and “Karen, resign” (referring to recently appointed Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan). Just earlier, protestors began to march toward Republic Square, stopping for a few moments in front of the RA Government building, after which they walked to Matenadaran (the Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts), where they are preparing to join in the People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan rally later today.

Speaking to Epress.am, demonstrators said they are preparing to continue their protests in front of the Yerevan City Hall building.
