Further Monitoring of Armenia’s Public TV H1 Required to Respond to Letter

On Jan. 18, Armenia’s National Commission on Television and Radio (NCTR) Chair Grigor Amalyan responded to the Jan. 10 letter sent by the Gyumri-based Asparez Journalists’ Club, reads a press release issued by Asparez.

“In response to your Jan. 10, 2011 appeal no. 1, I inform you that the issues raised require further examination, which, along with the measures taken, you will be informed about later,” reads the letter by Amalyan.

Recall that Asparez Journalists’ Club sent two letters to the NCTR (on Jan. 10 and 14) n which it outlined the violations the journalists’ club found in Armenia’s Public TV (H1) as a result of its monitoring of H1 on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The journalists’ club noted that there was an excess of commercials aired on those days, which violated the RA Law on TV and Radio.

Asparez Journalists’ Club notes that it continues to monitor H1, and it will make a statement about ads broadcast on the channel in the near future.
