Yerevan Residents Continue Protesting Building Construction in their Yard

At 12 pm today, residents of buildings at 21 Teryan St., 42 (Yeznik) Koghbatsi St. and 40 Pushkin St. in Yerevan will be organizing a protest against the construction of a high-rise building in their yard, according to the civil initiative “We are the owners of this city.”

According to members of the group, construction threatens to usurp the yard’s recreation area and endanger the surrounding buildings in terms of seismic safety and urban development.

Recall, it’s been a few days that residents have been preventing construction. Each time construction vehicles begin work, they come out into the yard and stand in the construction area, asking workers to stop.

Despite police instructions, people continue to insist that they will fight “till the end” for their rights and won’t allow the construction of a building in their yard.

Residents also prepared a petition addressed to Yerevan mayor Karen Karapetyan. When Epress.am last spoke to them, they were gathering signatures prior to sending the petition to city hall.
