Ombudsman Imagines Armenian Economy Without Street Trade and Monopolies

We have to give space and time for people to know that after 6 months or 1 year street trade will be eliminated and also enable people to earn a bit of income for their household without having to stand outside, said Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Armen Harutyunyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today about social issues and recent complaints by Yerevan vendors on the street trade ban imposed by the mayor.

“That is, I don’t agree with the way, but I agree that street trade in the city of Yerevan has to disappear. But I have repeatedly said that consumers’ rights will never be sufficiently guaranteed as long as our economic system is a monopoly,” he said.
