Azerbaijanis Feel More Constrained in Iran than Armenians: Analyst

“Iran has begun to openly engage in attacks on Azerbaijan, criticizing our country. In fact, Iran is engaged in brainwashing its own people, and through TV and other media, is carrying out an anti-Azerbaijan campaign,” said Baku-based political analyst Fikret Sadikhov in an interview with Vesti.az.

According to him, Iran has made some adjustments in its foreign policy, as reflected by the change of foreign minister. In addition, according to the analyst, Iran is strengthening its ties with Armenia, practically becoming its ally.

“Despite statements of Islamic solidarity, brotherhood, friendship and cooperation with Azerbaijan, Iran creates additional economic, humanitarian and even military opportunities for Armenia,” he said.

Sadikhov noted that Iran has always been jealous of “independent, secular Azerbaijan,” since Iran is home to more than 30 million Azerbaijanis, who don’t have schools, institutions or media at a provincial level.

“They feel more constrained than the scanty Armenian community,” he concluded.
