Does Armenia’s Nature Protection Ministry Protect Wildlife… or Kill It?

In the RA government meeting today, the administration discussed the sharp rise in the number of wolves over the past few years in Armenia. The executive body approved a resolution and measures to manage the situation.

According to the government decision, for each wolf that is caught and killed, the state will award 100,000 drams (about $274 US). Armenia’s Ministry of Nature Protection has been allocated 10 million drams (about $27,397 US) to distribute to citizens who catch and kill the wolves.

According to an observation by RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, a similar decision was approved in the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which prevented the sharp increase of wolves in the de-facto republic, albeit for a short period of time.
