Women in Armenia to Receive Free Medical Treatment for One Month

From Mar. 8 to Apr. 7 (traditionally considered “women’s month”), Surb Astvatcamayr (“Holy Mother of God”) Medical Center in Yerevan will treat women at no cost.

During the “For You, Women” program which has become a tradition in the country, women who seek treatment at the medical center will receive free-of-charge gynecological services and surgery, through open and endoscopic methods.

In 2010, there were 315 women who sought treatment during this month-long free program, out of which 113 were operated upon for gynecological issues, while 60 underwent various other surgeries, and the remainder received specialized consultations. From those who received surgery, 120 were from Yerevan, while 53 were from Nagorno-Karabakh and different regions in Armenia (outside of the capital).

The charitable program cost around 26 million drams (about $71,233 US), according to a release issued by the Yerevan City Hall press service.
