Armenians Urged to Show Concern, Attend Murder Trial of Abusive Husband

The trial in which Yanis Sarkisov is accused in the murder of Zaruhi Petrosyan will take place at 2 pm on Mar. 16 at the Court of General Jurisdiction in the city of Masis, according to a statement issued by the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women.

Recall, 20-year-old Petrosyan died in Oct. 2010 as a result of repeated psychological and physical abuse at the hands of her husband (Sarkisov) and his mother. Her child, who is a minor, is currently in an orphanage, under state care.

For a fair and just trial, the Coalition urges all citizens, activists and organizations to be present during court proceedings.

“Let’s show our concern in connection with such incidents and promote the reduction and prevention of cases of violence against women,” reads the statement issued by the group.
