‘Time to Gather Stones’: Hovannisian Calls for Changing the Situation in Armenia — Now and Together

The time has come that current president Mr. Sargsyan, despite all his positive characteristics, steps down and guarantees the first free, fair and transparent elections in the last 20 years, said Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian during a special meeting of the party earlier today.

“An opportunity has been given for him to become the foundation of establishing real democracy in the Republic of Armenia. Since 1995, we haven’t had civilized elections; our people’s voice has been stolen. We have been witness to this under three presidents,” he said.

The party leader spoke of numerous issues in Armenia today, as well as about the events of March 1.

“This is a situation of impunity. This situation has to be changed immediately, together, now, at this time, not only through speech, from here and from the platform, but with action, and that, side by side. It’s time for all of us to be exposed to a civil maneuver.

“We are in an emergency situation. Something’s wrong. We have to find the solution to this emergency situation now, with cold judgement, together with the current ruling authorities, the current opposition and most importantly with the people. Armenia’s public needs to come together, to unify: the time to gather stones has come,” he said.
