People Leaving Liberty Square. Next Rally, April 8

After Aram Manukyan and Levon Zurabyan, Armenian National Congress (HAK) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian made a speech at Liberty Square tonight. Following Ter-Petrossian’s speech, Republic party leader Aram Sargsyan announced that the next rally will be held on April 8 at Liberty Square.

Then HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan made a correction: HAK will submit a request for a permit to hold a rally in Liberty Square to Yerevan City Hall and if city hall denies the request, then they will gather outside the Matenadaran (Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts) and make a decision as to their next steps.

People are currently leaving Liberty Square, while music continues to play in the square.

Note, this is the first time opposition supporters have gathered in the square since the events of Mar. 1, 2008, when mass protests following contested presidential elections resulted in violence and use of force by law enforcement officials that left 10 people dead and many more injured.
