Armenian State Officials Encouraged to Find Work Abroad

Members of the HIMA (Now) youth initiative organized a protest outside the Armenian government building today against emigration centers in Armenia, particularly those centers established by Russia aimed at attracting Armenian families to migrate to Russia and work abroad. Speaking to Epress.am, protesting youth said such initiatives encourage large numbers of the Armenian population to emigrate.

“It’s no secret that emigration centers operating under the auspices of [the government of] Russia, as well as Armenia’s Labor and Social Affairs Ministry have been established in Yerevan and Armenia’s different regions, where there are queues of RA citizens wanting to leave [the country].

“We ask the government to set an example and immediately prepare [the necessary] documents and apply to the nearest emigration center — to receive permission for work abroad,” protestors said, encouraging such high-ranking officials as the country’s prime minister, the chief of police and the science and education minister to find work in various Russian towns and villages.
