Armenia’s Authorities Don’t Discriminate: Razmik Zohrabyan

As reported earlier, local media reports that Aram Bareghamyan, an opposition activist arrested and charged with “violence against a representative of the authorities” following the 2008 presidential elections, is soon to be released on parole. Along with Nikol Pashinyan and Sasun Mikaelyan, opposition groups in Armenia consider these men to be political prisoners.

Asked whether Pashinyan and Mikaelyan will be released following Bareghamyan’s release, ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) MP Razmik Zohrabyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today, said:

“I don’t have such precise information concerning Sasun Mikaelyan and Nikol Pashinyan, but I believe their time is coming too — for release on parole. I think, they’ll also get their turn there isn’t going to be a distinction made among those people. I don’t see a problem, the authorities don’t discriminate, whether Aram Bareghamyan or Sasun Mikaelyan,” he said.

Asked by a journalist whether there’s fear, the MP said, “Sasun Mikaelyan’s our friend: what should we be afraid of? What is he going to do, start a war?”
