Georgian Port Batumi Suspends Operations Due to Radiation Detection

The Georgian port of Batumi temporarily ceased operations due to detection of radioactivity in scrap metal, reports Trend news agency, citing port authorities.

It was not reported to which country the radioactive scrap metal was intended to be exported.

Several teams of rescuers and experts on radiation safety are on the scene.

The Georgian security agencies blocked all approaches to the port. All employees have been
evacuated.
