Iraq’s Deputy PM Promises to Visit Armenia Soon

Armenia’s Ambassador to Iraq Murad Muradyan (appointed in Sept. 2010) recently met with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq, reports Armenia’s foreign affairs ministry.

During the meeting, the parties discussed possible areas of cooperation between Armenia and Iraq. In particular, the Iraqi PM expressed an interest in Iraq importing electricity from Armenia. The parties discussed the possibilities in this matter and expressed hope the issue will be resolved.

Also discussed during the meeting was Armenia’s possible participation in Iraq’s reconstruction, particularly in the area of building construction.

In addition, Muradyan informed al-Mutlaq that in the near future Armenia will present two agreements to Iraq for discussion: one on economic cooperation and the other in investment protection.

At the end of the meeting, the Armenian ambassador passed on RA Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan’s invitation to Saleh al-Mutlaq to visit Armenia. The Iraqi PM accepted the invitation and noted that he will visit the country soon, along with high-ranking officials and Iraqi entrepreneurs.
