Fire Breaks Out in Moscow Armenian Monastery Complex

A fire erupted Thursday in an Armenian Apostolic Church being built in the center of Moscow.

A source in law enforcement told Interfax news agency, that the fire occurred on the construction site on Trifonovskaya Street. The fire erupted on the third floor. Fire trucks are on the scene.

It’s already been several years that the monastery complex is being built. According to the architects’ plans, the church will be a multifunctional complex that with a total area exceeding 25,000 square meters. It will include the cathedral, a chapel, an education center with library, a conference room, an area for guests and a museum and will be the seat of the head of the Novo-Nakhichevan and Russian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Also planned is an underground parking garage for at least 160 cars.
