Date for Sit-In at Liberty Square Set. Organizers Demand Serzh Sargsyan’s Resignation

A Facebook user by the name of Arman Antonyan created a page on the popular networking site today in which it says that there will be a sit-in on May 6 at 8 pm at Liberty Square in Yerevan. There are currently 15 Facebook users who’ve said their attending the event.

“All THOSE [caps in original] citizens who want want to achieve democracy in this country, who want to live in a free country, who want a prosperous future for their children, let them come to a sit-in of indeterminate length, the demand of which is the resignation of the government and [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan. In truth, the people have to be the one that dictates. There’s no more time to wait. Fight, fight till the end,” reads the information posted on the page, the last statement being a reference to the chant often heard at Armenian National Congress (HAK) rallies.

Speaking to Epress.am, Arman Antonyan said he is going to begin a sit-in that day and this is how he will express his protest.

“I am going to begin a sit-in and I only want to express my protest this way. I find that every citizen has a right to fight his or her own way. I also think that the public has to assume the role of the one who dictates.

“I have always participated in HAK rallies; I also participated yesterday. I think that the public has to decide what has to be done, while the opposition leaders respect and accept people’s decision,” he said.
