Earthquake Won’t Hinder Japan’s Continued Assistance to Armenia

Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan today welcomed Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Hisashi Tokunaga in Yerevan.

The Armenian head of state once again offered his condolences to the victims of the Mar. 11 tsunami and earthquake, noting that the Armenian people have also felt the effect of a natural disaster in the Spitak earthquake of 1988.

Sargsyan expressed hope that these difficult times for Japan won’t interfere with continuing the work of strengthening bilateral relations with Armenia, which culminated in the opening of an Armenian embassy in Tokyo last year.

Tokunaga assured Sargsyan that Japan is preparing to continue its assistance programs in Armenia. The Japanese vice-minister noted this is the first time he is officially visiting Armenia, and he is confident that the meetings and discussions planned for this visit will contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation in different sectors in the future, reports the RA president’s press office.
