Stooping in Public Transportation Minibuses Prohibited by Law, Say Facebook Activists

A Facebook group roughly translated from Armenian to “We don’t stoop in minibuses” has begun posting photos in which passengers are seen standing with their backs bent in overcrowded minibuses, which are the primary form of public transportation in Yerevan as well as on inter-city routes.

The last photo posted on the group page, according to the accompanying note, was taken by Bulgarian tourists in Armenia on business. The Facebook user who posted the photo wrote the guests were surprised by the situation on public transport vehicles, considering it laughable.

The group, which currently has 93 members, notes that stooping in minibuses is actually prohibited by law, there’s a greater likelihood of death in case of an accident if one is standing, it’s inconvenient to lean on others with one’s buttocks and stooping has a negative impact on one’s health.

Group members note they are in the process of planning their next steps and need photos and videos (either shot from inside or outside a minibus) of stooped passengers.
