Shushan Petrosyan Sings High Praises for Emmy Over Eva Rivas

Perhaps the reason for Emmy’s mistakes is that she listens to her parents too much. Youth shouldn’t be like that; they should more so not listen (to their parents), said composer Yervand Yerznkyan at a press conference in Yerevan today, referring to the performance of Armenia’s contestant to the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, Emmy. Recall, Emmy performed in the first semi-final, but did not qualify for the final.

“Emmy’s song was much better than last year’s song. What was Eva Rivas — she was nothing for us,” said the composer, whose words were supplemented by singer Shushan Petrosyan, who said, she was “something like gum from abroad”.

Petrosyan added that criticizing Emmy is a betrayal since she had a great performance.

“I don’t understand how one can relate in this manner, to criticize every detail: clothing, grooming, and so on. God forbid, any one of you passed through the trials that Emmy passed through. Such an attitude because of a single defeat is simply a betrayal. She’s a twenty-two year old girl [editor’s note: Emmy’s official website indicates she’s 27 years old], what do you want, people?” said Petrosyan, adding this is the first time she’s been infuriated. “I got angry, you know; really, I got irritated.”

Petrosyan mentioned that from the beginning, she cautioned Emmy against going. “I said, don’t go; you’re a loved singer; do you need this?”

Saying she’s congratulated Emmy for her performance, Petrosyan noted that the shortcomings in the performance were the back vocals.

Yerznkyan considered it incomprehensible how people’s opinion of a singer can drastically change after a single performance.
