Yerevan City Hall Again Permits Opposition Rally in Liberty Square

Yerevan City Hall today approved the request submitted by the Armenian National Congress (HAK) on Friday to hold a rally in Liberty Square on May 31 from 4 pm to 11 pm, followed by a march on the following route: Liberty Square – Mashtots Ave. – Koryun St. – Abovian St. – Tumanyan St. – Liberty Square.

As previously reported, the municipality had annulled the opposition bloc’s request for a rally and march on May 11 since, according to city hall, it didn’t correspond to the new laws.

As told to Epress.am by HAK representative Tigran Arakelyan, according to the new law, the term “rally” has changed to “gathering” and new requirements have been introduced.

Recall, this will be the second time in the past 3 years that Yerevan City Hall has granted permission to the opposition to hold a rally in Liberty Square. HAK’s last rally was on Apr. 28.
