Examining Nikol Pashinyan’s Lawsuit Postponed More than a Month

Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) chief editor Nikol Pashinyan’s lawsuit against Kosh penitentiary set to be heard in court Friday was postponed since the defendants were not present. Judge Robert Sargsyan declared the next court date to be on Aug. 22 at 2:30 pm.

Recall, Pashinayn is asking the Armenian administrative court to overrule a Nov. 16, 2010 decision made by Kosh prison chief to subject him to a penalty.

Pashinyan, speaking to journalists after the court session, said that though he is no longer in prison, he is convinced that he was unlawfully penalized.

“I think that we have to fight using all possible means against unlawful actions. The issue is not that an unlawful act was committed against me, but the issue, in my opinion, is that an unlawful action took place and I will attempt to prove this in court. If the lawsuit is sustained, then we will fight for our principles till the end,” he said.

Note, Pashinyan has filed 5 claims in court, all having to do with penalties he was subject to while in prison.

“It’s not ruled out that in the future I will file new claims against the justice ministry and the penitentiary administration because there are still unexplained issues connected with the penitentiaries,” he said.
