Georgia’s Armenians Attempt to Resolve Issues through Embassy in Russia

A meeting between Armenian Ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan and Aghasi Arabyan, head of Javakhq [Javakheti] Diaspora, a NGO to promote interethnic cultural ties which recently received state registration, took place at the Armenian embassy in Russia on Jul. 13.

According to Regnum news agency, Arabyan presented an analysis of the current situation of ethnic Armenian living in the Georgian region of Javakheti, particularly on the matter of seasonal Armenian migrants to Russia which, according to him, is due to the level of high unemployment in the Georgian region.

The parties exchanged views on several issues, including the need to facilitate crossing of state borders for Javakheti-Armenians, ways to ease transportation of agricultural goods across the Armenia-Georgia border, as well as the need to ensure (the availability of) academic and extracurricular literature in the Armenian language.
