150 Stitches for Young Man Who Attempted to Commit Suicide in Arabkir Court

As previously reported, according to the mother of Armen Martirosyan, who is being charged with 4 counts of theft, her son attempted to commit suicide during his trial Monday at the Court of First Instance of Arabkir and Qanaqer-Zeytun Communities of Yerevan.

According to the Helsinki Association for Human Rights, Martirosyan caused injuries to his hands and his abdominal regions. He was initially taken to Erebuni medical center, after which he was moved to the medical treatment center at Nubarashen prison. Doctors were able to save Martirosyan’s life, and after his treatment, he was moved to the prison cells with 150 stitches.

The trial against Armen Martirosyan, which began in Aug. 2010, is ongoing.

Martirosyan was arrested on Jan. 19, 2010. Ophelia Martirosyan, Armen’s mother, contacted the Helsinki Association, saying that her son is being tortured and that his testimony was extracted through torture.
