Turkey’s and Russia’s Views on Karabakh Conflict Coincide: Gul

In the process of establishing peace in the South Caucasus and in the region, as well as establishing cooperation and prosperity beyond its borders, the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan and Armenia-Turkey relations should not be viewed as a separate process, since it requires consideration on a region-wide level, said Turkish President Abdullah Gul in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper and MK-Turkey news agency.

In his words, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the main obstacle in creating a favorable climate for peace, security and cooperation in the South Caucasus.

“I believe that Turkey’s opinion on this issue coincides with Russia’s view. The progress that might be achieved on the path to the Karabakh conflict settlement from this perspective will be crucial,” Gul said.

The Turkish leader then expressed his country’s readiness to fully support the search for a solution to the conflict, “a process that personally involves Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and also to do everything possible for further resolution of the conflict.

“The progress attained on this path will undoubtedly have a positive impact on Turkish-Armenian relations. This is Turkey’s position on normalization of ties with Armenia. We sincerely hope for the successful completion of the normalization process,” he said.
