Yerevan City Hall Postponed Sale of Pedestrian Underpass

Today, the municipality was to have determined the winner of a tender to revitalize the pedestrian underpass at the intersection of Koryun and Abovyan streets in Yerevan; however, after discussion on the matter, mayor Karen Karapetyan decided that the winner will be announced on Friday at 4 pm.

This news was conveyed to Epress.am by Gagik Badalyan, a vendor who works in the underground passage and who, along with other vendors, were protesting outside city hall yesterday and today.

“It seems that they want to make a decision in support of the people, but it’s still questionable; we hope that this isn’t simply a soft pillow that they place under our heads,” he said.

Recall, bids by three applicants have been made: Getnantsum (“underground passage”) CJSC, established by the traders themselves, who have offered 255 million drams (about $680,327 USD); Antsum-1 CJSC, which has proposed 455 million drams (about $1 million 214 thousand USD); and a businessman by the name of Ashot Ohanyan, who has offered 400 million drams (about $1 thousand 67 thousand USD).
