Georgia Does Not Recognize Recent ‘Illegal Elections’ in Karabakh

Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its unequivocal support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders and does not recognize  the “illegal elections of so-called local self-government bodies” held on Sept. 18, 2011, in Nagorno-Karabakh, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Thursday.

“The Georgian Foreign Ministry welcomes the international community’s efforts towards ensuring a peaceful settlement of the conflict, and believes that there is no alternative to continuing dialogue,” concludes the statement.
