2011 was Year of Tolerance and Solidarity, Believes Parliamentary Vice Chair

Newly elected Deputy Chair of Armenia’s National Assembly and Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) press spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov, today summing up the year in politics, described it as a year of tolerance and solidarity, which, according to him, unlike in the previous period of political struggle, is the result of the “proper tolerant activities” of the authorities and the opposition.

“In this sense, we recorded progress in terms of the development of democracy. No only our European partners, but also the leader of the extra-parliamentary opposition spoke about this. We were able to display political will, as a result of which engaging in discussions generally with all political entities through dialogue became possible,” he said.

According to the parliamentary vice chair, the Armenian authorities were able to discuss certain issues with the extra-parliamentary opposition, but for some reason, the opposition suspended the process. Sharmazanov expressed hope that the 2012 pre–presidential election year will be free of a personal and “not proper” struggle, and there will be only a civilized struggle.
