Bus Passengers Held Hostage by Drivers Now Crossing Armenia-Georgia Border

The 47 passengers on the bus from Istanbul to Yerevan, who were kept hostage by the 2 Turkish and Georgian drivers on the Georgian side of the Armenia-Georgia border, recently approached border control with their luggage and are expected to enter the territory of Armenia.

This news was conveyed to Epress.am by Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tigran Balayan, who mentioned their office received this news moments ago from the Georgian embassy.

Recall, since Wednesday, the drivers weren’t allowing passengers (which included 45 Armenians and 2 Turks — mainly women, children and the elderly) to leave the bus. The drivers were protesting unpaid wages, refusing to continue their route because they had signed a contract with a company that had not yet paid them. Armenia’s Consul in Georgia was dealing with the case.
