Turkish Minister Calls on Berlin to Settle ‘Historic Dispute’ on Armenian Genocide

Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bağış has called on Berlin to settle the historic dispute between France and Turkey on the Armenian Genocide. German archives must have kept information on the events of 1915 in Anatolia, he said.

“One of the strongest allies of the Armenians in 1915 was Germany. I wonder what lies in the German archives. If the Germans were to open their archives, historians could evaluate the material,” Bağış said, reported German publication Die Welt.

Recall, Zurich’s public prosecutor recently launched a preliminary inquiry into Bağış after he publicly said “there is no Armenian Genocide. Let them come and arrest me” in Switzerland on his way back from the World Economic Forum at Davos last month. Turkey swiftly responded to news of the investigation, with the Swiss ambassador in Ankara being summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Monday afternoon.
