Armenia Now Represented in Council of Europe Gender Equality Committee

A representative of Armenia was elected through secret voting to be a member of the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee on Gender Equality. The CoE Steering Committee between Women and Men, which is directly answerable to the Committee of Ministers from which it receives its instructions, is responsible for defending, stimulating and conducting the Council of Europe’s action to promote equality between women and men.

According to a press statement issued by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Committee is comprised of 16 out of 47 Council of Europe member states. Armenia’s representative is the only one from the region. Representing Armenia in the Committee will be Karine Sujyan, head of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Division at the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ International Organizations Department.
