Water, Energy Issues Might Unite Armenians and Azeris

There are many possibilities for the development of humanitarian ties between the conflicting parties of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Robert Bradtke, the US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is tasked with mediating the conflict.

As reported by Baku-based news agency APA, asked whether he expects further steps in the framework of humanitarian ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the US diplomat noted the importance of human relationships: “The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan also spoke of this. They promise that humanitarian relations will develop further. We are only now beginning to build cultural and educational ties. This is only the beginning. Cooperation at this stage greatly encourages us.”

Recalling that the co-chairs visited the Armenia-Azerbaijan border last December, Bradtke said: “We have seen that people living on both sides [of the border] are faced with the same challenges — water and energy problems. We would like to create some sort of collaboration between people facing the same problems.”
