Another Incident of Armenian Lawmakers Voting for Absent Colleagues: Watchdog

According to media reports, the habit of lawmakers voting for their absent colleagues in parliament continued yesterday, to which Heritage Party MP Larisa Alaverdyan complained during the parliament meeting in question.

Head of the Armenian Parliamentarism Center Ruben Torosyan today filed a claim in this regard with the country’s Special Investigative Service (SIS), while informing the SIS that the Center has not yet received a proper response to a claim it submitted earlier on a similar incident in February, according to a statement issued by the Armenian Parliamentarism Center.

“We informed them only that the claims were submitted to the National Assembly speaker, who made some calls on some of them and that’s all. That is to say, these claims have “fallen asleep” in the parliamentary speaker’s possession.

“Perhaps the only “good” news we’ve received is that some of those violators of the law have been included in the Republican Party of Armenia’s executive body and its pre-election list [of candidates]. That is, the HHK leader’s surroundings has had significant achievements in quality.

“In these encouraging conditions, why shouldn’t they have repeated the same crime and that already in their high-ranking posts?

“In any case, we have sent news of this matter to the head of the European Democratic Party,” reads the statement.
