New Project Uses Ushahidi to Map Possible Election Violations in Armenia

Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center and the Media Diversity Institute are jointly implementing a project called “iDitord” (“ditord” means observer in Armenian), which aims to promote free, fair and transparent elections in Armenia through enhancing crowdsourcing elections observation and mapping observed instances of electoral violations on a website, according to a statement issued by Transparency International.

The iDitord project was developed based on the Ushahidi online mapping tool, which was created in 2007 to sum up electoral violations during Kenya’s presidential elections. Since then it was used in numerous other countries to observe electoral processes. This tool will first be applied in Armenia on May 6, 2012, to observe the parliamentary election and the electoral campaign preceding it.

Trainings will be organized for interested representatives of media outlets, NGOs and civic initiatives, as well as active citizens to get better acquainted with iDitord website opportunities and technologies to register electoral violations.
