Parliamentary Speaker on How Re-Elected Control Chamber Chairperson Must Work

Ishkhan Zakaryan was re-elected as Chair of the Control Chamber of Armenia. In a vote held in parliament today, 88 voted in favor and 13 MPs voted against.

After the vote, National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan told reporters that from now on, the chair of the Control Chamber has to talk about only those revelations that are true.

"We have to assist the normal operation of the Control Chamber: being brought should be those figures that are correct, justified, and on which its possible to give a legal assessment. There are criticisms that are untrue. It is the task of the chair of the Control Chamber and the entire staff to identify violations," said Abrahamyan.

Asked by Epress.am whether that means that Ishkhan Zakarqyan was making statements 5 months ago that were untrue, that is, he was engaging in slander, the parliamentary speaker said, "To you [referring to the reporter] — no."

Note, the Armenian National Congress parliamentary faction had decided not to participate in the vote, but MPs Hrant Bagratyan and Nikol Pashinyan (both from this faction) voted.
