Gazprom Armenia Refuses to Help Greenhouse Farmers

As a result of the increase in the gas price, greenhouse farmers have accumulated enormous debts, which they are unable to pay, reports local daily Zhoghovurd.

About 20 greenhouse owners have appealed to the RA Ministry of Agriculture, hoping for assistance. RA Minister Sergo Karapetyan informed the newspaper that he sent an official letter to Gazprom Armenia CJSC, asking the gas company to extend the repayment period at least till May.

"But they replied that as a result of not making payments, greenhouse industry subscribers are forced to take loans and pay interest, bearing indirect losses. And given this fact, the company refused. Now the ministry has no other leverage or influence on the company. Though in the past, processing companies have provided such support, but this time it didn't work out," he said.
