Agricultural Industry Will Suffer After Armenia Joins Customs Union

After comparing the official figures from the RA State Revenue Committee and the customs duties of the Customs Union it becomes clear that Armenia's membership in the Customs Union will have a significant negative impact on the country's agricultural industry, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak.

In particular, the price of fertilizer will increase by 8%, livestock feed will increase by 5% to 7.5%, and agricultural equipment will increase by 5%.

"This is due to the fact that there are no customs duties on imports of these products into Armenia, while after [Armenia] becomes a member of the Customs Union, the imports will be taxed with customs duties. There are high customs duties even on seeds," reports the newspaper.
