Justice Ministry Requests Additional State Funds to Build New Prison: Paper

To be discussed at the Armenian government's upcoming meeting is a proposal by the RA Ministry of Justice, requesting 875 million AMD from the government's reserve fund to be allocated to the penitentiary department, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak.

The justice ministry explained that the funds allocated for the construction of a new institution for prisoners in Armavir were not enough. According to the ministry, the new penitentiary is expected to be operational by next month, but the program provides for the construction of this penitentiary for 400 prisoners to continue and for 800 prisoners to be housed there. And for that, the 1 billion AMD allocated from the 2014 state budget is not enough.

After completion of this building, which is being built since 2006, 1240 prisoners are expected to be housed there.
