Prisoner Claims He was Beaten with Rubber Baton: Criminal Case Launched

Vanadzor Penitentiary Institution prisoner L.Ch. submitted a report to the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia (RA), claiming that on April 16, 2014, employees of the RA Police Stepanavan division beat him with a rubber truncheon and threatened to harm his brother who is serving in the army, according to a statement on the RA Special Investigation Service website. 

According to the prisoner's claim, he was forced to confess to crimes he did not commit. Based on the report, the RA Special Investigation Service has launched a criminal case under charges of RA Criminal Code Article 309 Section 2 ("exceeding official authorities, accompanied by violence").
